ACCSTR receives grant from Sea Turtle Grants Program

We are excited to announce that funds from the Sea Turtle Grants Program were awarded to the Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research (ACCSTR) to support our Reclaim Our Coasts (ROC) project. These funds will be used to conduct a pilot project to remove an obstacle to nesting sea turtles and hatchlings. Removal of barriers or obstacles to nesting turtles and hatchlings will improve the quantity and quality of nesting habitat, and make our beaches safer for turtles!  With our Volusia County partners, we are planning our first removal that will remove cage-like barriers near the dune on New Smyrna Beach.  We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

This project is funded in part by a grant awarded from the Sea Turtle Grants Program. The Sea Turtle Grants Program is funded from proceeds from the sale of the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate. Learn more at www.helpingseaturtles.org.
