Luciano will have his PhD qualifying exam in early September and then travel to Praia do Forte, Bahia, Brazil, to begin to collect field data for his dissertation: Sea turtle hybridization along the Brazilian coast: a genetic, ecological and behavioral analysis.
Karen presented the following paper at the Comparative Nutrition Society meetings in Asilomar, California in July: Nitrogen and carbon stable isotopes – where you eat is as important as what you eat. Karen was joined at the meetings by Kim Reich who received her PhD at the ACCSTR in 2009.
The ACCSTR has appointed a Development Board to help develop a fundraising strategy and implementation program to endow the Center. The first meeting of the Board will be on 2 November.
Joe is spending the summer at Wassaw Island, Georgia, where he serves as Research Director for the Caretta Research Project. This is a long-term field study which began in 1973. Joe is completing an analysis of nesting demography when not tagging turtles and teaching volunteers.
Mariela submitted her manuscript for publication: Assignment of nesting loggerhead turtles to their foraging areas in the Northwest Atlantic using stable isotopes.
