This past January, Karen Bjorndal officially retired from her positions as a Distinguished Professor of biology and the director of the Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research, marking the end of a more than 50-year career at the university.

Sea turtles are slow-growing and long-lived. As a result, studies on these species must also stretch over decades.
The involvement of graduate students in our research ensures that, while answering critical questions in sea turtle biology, we are also educating future sea turtle biologists and conservationists.
These interactions allow us to pursue research and conservation initiatives more effectively in the international arena and to exchange graduate students and biologists.
